HCS is excited to launch our Portraits of Hollywood project! Each week we will post a picture of a person who lives, works, and/or plays in Hollywood. Our goal is to show that Hollywood is not full of celebrities (like the movies would have you think), but is a diverse, vibrant community filled with lots of engaging and engaged folks. This project also gives us the chance to learn more about what our neighbors think about Hollywood, and what it could use more of.
Last week, HCS attended Hollywood High School’s performance of the musical RENT by Jonathan Larson. The actors and actresses put on a fabulous performance! If you’re interested in checking it out, there are three more showings this week — check out HHS’ website for details.
During intermission, we met this gentleman who came out to support the show.

When asked what he thought Hollywood needs he said, “More trees, less traffic.”
He is not the only one. Did you know Tree People, the environmental non-profit organization, has been advocating for and planting more trees in Los Angeles? The organization is also working towards the Mayor’s One Million Trees campaign. For more information about how to plan for or protect a tree planting, visit the One Million Trees: Get Involved webpage.
Stay tuned for next week’s Portraits of Hollywood post!
