FREE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION TRAININGS

The Hollywood Community Studio invites you to attend our upcoming community-based organization capacity-building trainings! We have worked with staff at Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and HealthyCity.org to bring you two trainings that we think will enhance the work of your agency.  Please forward this on to other staff members who may benefit from these trainings.  We hope to see you at one or both of the events listed below!

Tenants’ Rights TrainingLegal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles

Tuesday, April 27, 2010
11:30AM – 1:00PM
Brown bag lunch
Training will be held at the Hollywood Community Studio
6671 Sunset Boulevard, Suite 1517
(323) 465.9572

This training is best suited for staff who interface with clients dealing with housing issues.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) will lead a training to equip local community-based organizations with the information they need to best assist low-income clients facing problems with rental housing. What do you tell clients to do when their landlord does not fix damages? How should tenants request these fixes? What are tenants’ basic rights? How can low-income tenants fight eviction or prevent it from happening in the first place? Come learn answers to these questions and more! An attorney will be on hand to answer your questions, guide you through how to best navigate the legal system, and discuss the referral process at LAFLA for housing-specific cases.

HealthyCity.org TrainingHealthyCity.org

Tuesday, May 18, 2010
10:00AM – 12:00PM
Training will be held at the Hollywood FamilySource Center
5500 Hollywood Boulevard, 2nd Floor

This training is best suited for staff who direct clients to services as well as staff who seek information for grant writing and other reporting needs.

Representatives from HealthyCity.org will lead a training on how to maximize your organization’s use of their website, which allows you to search for community services, research demographics, and discover information on health and economics to support policy and planning. This incredibly powerful tool can give you access to data for grant-writing, help you link clients to the services they need, and give you the ability to create demographic and service maps for Hollywood and beyond. Even if you are already familiar with the site, the training will make you a power user, as well as introduce you to their recently-launched state-wide initiative. This hands-on training will take place in the computer lab at the new FamilySource Center in the Mayer Building, just across from the Hollywood/Western Metro station.

SPACE IS LIMITED:
